Rescued from the Train Tracks
June 2026
My Name is DV. I was born into a high cast Brahmin Hindu family in Uttar Pradesh. This is the birth place of the Hindu god lord Ram and a holy pilgrimage place Hindus must visit once in their lifetime to obtain Nirvana. My father was strict about Hindu culture and I was forced to fast and recite all the Hindu mantras and slokas in the temple every day since my childhood
My father got a job transfer in North India when I was 14 years old and I made many bad friends in high school. I fell into excessive drinking, smoking, and fighting other school kids. When I was 16, my life was all messed up. My parents used to say there was nothing good in me and that I brought shame to our family name.
In 2010, my sister was demon possessed for more than a year. My parents first took her to see medical doctors, but they could not help her. They then took my sister to witchdoctors and many other Hindu gurus and babas. Still, my sister’s health did not improve. She became so weak and was regularly tormented by the evil spirit daily. My family lost all their money and lost hope, fearing she would die.
One day, a Christian man told my father to go to church and have their daughter prayed over, and she would be delivered from the evil spirit. My parents did not know any Christians, but found a church in a nearby village. They met the pastor and explained that they did not have any money to pay him to pray for my sister. He told them that prayer was free, but they needed to trust in Jesus Christ for healing to take place. He shared the gospel with our family and my parents put their faith in Jesus that day. After two months of prayer for my sister, she was completely delivered. From then on, my family faithfully followed Jesus despite opposition and persecution. I, however, though I saw my sister healed, strongly hated the foreign cow-eating Christians that came to visit my parents and pray, and refused to attend church or to follow Jesus.
Just before my final high school exam, I was so disturbed because of my addictions and hate that everyone felt toward me that I lost all hope and decided to commit suicide. I went to the railway and could see the train approaching. It was maybe several hundred feet away from me and I was about to jump, but I clearly heard a voice in my ear to stop and call my Christian brother-in-law. I don’t know how I stopped, but I called him. It was late at night, but he rushed to see me and pray over me. That night I sleep peacefully at his place and Jesus told me He loved me and had a better plan for my life. I gave my life to Jesus the next morning and began going to church. Soon, my bad habits began to change and I grew closer to Christ.
In January of 2021, I married my wife, a pastor’s daughter. Several years later, she attended Acts training on the recommendation of our pastor and she graduated in 2025. She learned so much about God and ministry that she told me I need to attend as well. I joined the next year’s cohort and graduated in 2026. After my graduation, we began reaching out to the unreached Brahmin people groups in our area. Now, though it is not easy at times, we have started doing a house prayer ministry and are expanding our outreach to many more people groups. Please pray that a church is started and the gospel spreads throughout our land.
