A Lonely Wedding
August, 2026
I am GB, born and brought up in a staunch Hindu family from Eastern Bhutan. I am the third sibling in the family. My parents were very devoted Hindus and used to follow every religious ritual without fail. To fulfill all the family's annual rituals, my dad and mom used to work hard. Despite being devoted and faithful in practicing the Hindu rituals, we always had a hard time sustaining the family. As a result, we could not continue going to school. I had to dropped out of school in the tenth grade.
After dropping out, I got training as a security guard. This allowed me to earn a salary and help my family. One morning while I was on duty, I happened to talk with one of my colleagues. She began to share the gospel. To my surprise, I had never heard about Jesus Christ. This conversation gradually led me to realize that I was a sinner and needed Jesus to be saved from eternal condemnation. One Sunday in 2024, I went along with my friend to attend a nearby church fellowship. During the service, the pastor encouraged me to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and I asked Jesus for forgiveness for my sins. My heart began to fill with joy that I had never experienced in my life.
I began to attend church regularly and enjoyed the fellowship of fellow believers. This helped me to have the assurance of my salvation. At my home though, my parents and relatives had heard about my conversion. Through phone calls, people from my village and my relatives began scolding me. They, along with my parents, completely rejected me. This really hurt me a lot, but the Lord helped me to understand and encouraged through His promises in His word.
In the year 2025, I got married to my husband, who is a God-fearing man. Before we got married, I invited my parents and relatives, but nobody attended our wedding. Even though there was no one from my side, God blessed me with lots of families from the church.
After our marriage, we went to to attend Acts training in 2025. Acts training helped me to understand Scripture and the love of God more deeply. Then I began to forgive my parents and relatives for rejecting me. This gradually led me to love them. One day my father visited me while he was with us, and my husband and I shared the gospel. Though he hasn’t accepted the Lord, we have been praying for him to know Jesus.
By the grace of God, I completed my training., and after graduating, I decided to reach out to my parents, relatives, and the people of my village, believing that one day they might come to Jesus. I now realize that the Lord has chosen me from my family to be the salt and light for Jesus in my village.
